UX Writing Challenge - Day Ten

Scenario: The user is trying to view a website to help them buy a car. But, the content can’t load without the user’s location. They need to enter their ZIP / Post code and first name.

Challenge: Ask them where they live and who they are without sounding like you're unnecessarily mining their data.

Before You Browse

To narrow your search, we need your location.

My thoughts

I was tempted to use a bit of humour here, and initially went for 'We Need Some Deets'. Though considering how fraudulent and dangerous the modern web is, entering any personal data needs to have a modicum of responsibility.

I kept the user's reason for the site close to mind, as I went for 'Before You Browse' and explaining just why we need their information. Quite why it needs their first name, I am unsure. I wanted to leave that explanation for the box where you have to actually input it. It would have to be a good one to get me to input it, frankly.
